A GEO audit measures your company's visibility in the answers of generative AI engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews. Are you cited? Is what is said accurate? Who is being recommended in your place, and why? Inside Web answers those questions, and then identifies what, on your site and beyond it, is holding your citations back.

Why a GEO audit now.

Your prospects are already putting their questions to an AI: “which provider should I choose?”, “who does this near me?”, “what is the difference between these two solutions?”. Most companies have no idea what is being said in reply. Some are absent, others are described with outdated information, and others again watch a competitor being recommended every time.

You cannot improve what you have never measured.

What we measure.

  • Citation rate

Across a set of real questions, the share of answers in which your company is mentioned, engine by engine.

  • Accuracy

Is what AI says about your services, your location, your opening hours or your prices correct and up to date?

  • Competitors cited

Who is recommended in your place, on which questions, and with what arguments.

  • Sources used

The pages of your site or the third-party sites the engines rely on when talking about you and about your sector.

What we examine to explain the results.

  • Crawler access

robots.txt, firewall and page rendering: can the search crawlers of AI engines read your site?

  • Quotable content

Direct answers, precise facts, frequent questions, readable structures: are your pages easy to draw from?

  • Structured data

Organisation, services, address, reviews and FAQs described correctly for search engines.

  • Entity consistency

Name, address, services and description identical on your site, your Google Business Profile, LinkedIn and directories.

  • Off-site reputation

Mentions, reviews, articles and recognised directories that give engines reasons to cite you.

  • SEO foundations

Indexing in Google and Bing, on which answer engines partly rely.

How we work.

  1. 01

    Define the set of questions

With you, around thirty questions your customers genuinely ask, by service, by area and by stage in the decision.

  2. 02

    Query the engines

Each question is put to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot, and observed in Google's AI Overviews, under comparable conditions.

  3. 03

    Record and compare

Citations, position within the answer, sources, accuracy and competitors mentioned, all gathered in one dashboard.

  4. 04

    Diagnose

Technical, editorial and off-site analysis to tie every absence or error to a concrete cause.

  5. 05

    Prioritise and present

An action plan ranked by impact and effort, presented in a meeting, with the question set ready to be measured again.

What you receive.

DeliverableWhat it is for
A visibility table by engineSeeing at a glance where you are cited, and where you are not
A record of factual errorsCorrecting false or outdated information at source
A comparison with your competitorsUnderstanding why others are recommended in your place
A prioritised action planKnowing what to fix first, on the site and beyond it
A reusable question setMeasuring progress month after month on the same basis

AI answers vary from one session to the next. That is why we measure across a broad, repeated set of questions rather than on an isolated screenshot: the aim is a dependable trend, not a flattering snapshot.

With an eye on what comes next.

The GEO audit is a starting point. The corrections often span several disciplines at once: content, technical SEO, structured data, local SEO and reputation. Our guide on appearing in ChatGPT sets out the levers, and monthly monitoring of the question set shows whether each action genuinely moves your citations forward.

Your questions.

(GEO audit)

What is a GEO audit?

A GEO audit measures a company's visibility in the answers of generative AI engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews, and then identifies the technical, editorial and off-site causes that explain its presence or its absence.

How do I know whether ChatGPT cites my company?

By asking it, repeatedly, the questions your customers would genuinely ask, and recording whether your company is mentioned, in what context and with which sources. A GEO audit does that in a structured way across several engines at once.

Which AI engines are analysed?

Chiefly ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Google's AI Overviews. The set can be adapted to the tools your customers actually use.

How does a GEO audit differ from an SEO audit?

An SEO audit analyses your position in Google's ordinary results. A GEO audit measures whether you are cited in the answers generated by AI, and whether what is said is accurate. The two share foundations but do not measure the same thing.

Do AI answers not change all the time?

They do, varying from one session and one wording to another. That is why the audit rests on a set of around thirty questions, asked under comparable conditions and measured again over time, so that dependable trends emerge rather than one-off results.

What do we do if an AI gives false information about our company?

Find and correct the source of the error: outdated information on your site, an incomplete Google Business Profile, old directory entries or articles. The audit records those errors and indicates where to correct them first.

Why is a competitor cited and not us?

Often because they are described more clearly on their own site, mentioned on more reliable third-party sources, or answer the questions asked more directly. The audit compares those elements to identify the gap to close.

How long does a GEO audit take?

Usually a few working days, depending on the number of services, geographic areas and languages the question set has to cover. The findings are then talked through in a meeting.

Is a GEO audit worthwhile for a small local business?

Yes. AI assistants are increasingly used to find a provider nearby. For a local business the audit focuses particularly on the Google Business Profile, reviews and the consistency of local information.

Do we need to rank well on Google to be cited by AI?

It is an important advantage. Several answer engines rely partly on existing search indexes, such as those of Google and Bing. A site that is poorly indexed or technically fragile is less likely to be used as a source.

Can progress be monitored after the audit?

Yes. The question set defined during the audit serves as the baseline. It is measured again each month as part of our Visibility service, so the effect of the actions taken can be checked and priorities adjusted.

Does the GEO audit include the corrections?

The audit provides the diagnosis and the action plan. The corrections can then be carried out by our teams, who cover development, SEO, content and structured data, or by your own team.
